Israel had not given up hope despite a 500 year silent period known as the "Intertestamental Period" (the time span between Malachi and Matthew). When the "fullness of time" came to being, God gave us the gift of His Son, the living Word (John 1:1,18). As we wait upon the Lord during "silent periods" we can be assured that when our own "fullness of times" comes, He will once again reveal His Word (either written and through a prompting of the Holy Spirit).
