| Tax Season |

April 15. Ah, yes. Tax season is upon us. I filed an extension for my first time. Hearing about the "Tea Parties" it appears many are "filing" exceptions. I have been aware of tax abolitionists - those who would abolish any taxation - for years. Living in Wisconsin I heard of the Posse Comotatus (spelling?) who opposed just about everything the federal government did. Most likely everyone of us feel the pain of having so much of our hard-earned money going to a government that is not known for being frugal or righteous, to say the least. So, what can we do? As Christians we don't have the option to not "render unto Caesar what is Caesar's" as instructed by our Lord. This doesn't mean, however, that we agree with all our governing authorities do. Naturally, we disagree vehemenently with abortion, yet, our current administration considers it a golden calf. To many supporters abortion is their cash cow. Shooting abortionists is not the answer! It is against the law to picket. So, what can we do? First, many Christians need to repent for voting for pro-abortion politicians. Many need to repent for voting for oppression by taxation. God has never endorsed abortion and never will. Neither has God supported governmental oppression. Many of us need to repent for not doing anything to oppose the advancement of evil. For certain, God is the Defender of the defenseless and will do something to rectify these wrongs. History reflects the ruin of many proud rulers and workers of iniquity. God reassures us that He "is not mocked (and) whatever a man sows, that he shall reap". (Gal. 6:7). This tells us that God will do something - sooner or later- but what can we do? Pray and vote. Alone, neither are adequate to stop America's downward spiral. Prayer is the most powerful spiritual exercise we can do according to James 5:16: "The effective fervant prayer of a rightous man (or woman of God) accomplishes much". Indeed, we are instructed to pray "for all that are in authority, that we may lead a quiet and peaceable life in all godliness and honesty" (in 1 Tim. 2:1-3), "for this is good and acceptable in the sight of God". While it may be difficult to know if a politician is godly and honest, we must vote for those who support godly legislation. If we pray in God's will we will also vote in God's will. Perhaps as we feel the pain of paying taxes that support an ungodly government we will be motivated to pray more earnestly and vote more honestly. Let's covenant to pray together daily for our government and for God to intervene on behalf of those who name His Name in America. Let's also covenant to pray and vote for those who represent our rightous God in government. |
